Import a preset

Import in HandBrake via Presets → Import, then choose it before encoding.

Match the preset to your map's resolution. Running the 4K preset on a 1080p or smaller map adds no detail and only makes a bigger file. These presets are for video maps only; still images (JPEG, PNG, WebP) never need converting.

Converting with HandBrake
Prefer to set it up by hand? Pick H.264 for maps up to 1080p, or H.265 for maps up to 4K. Here is the full flow, screen by screen.
  1. Open your map. Drag your video onto HandBrake, or use Open Source. It loads the file and shows its current size and resolution.
  2. Set the format. On the Summary tab, set Format to MP4. Leave Web Optimized on if you like.
  3. Cap the resolution. On the Dimensions tab, set the limit to 1920×1080 for H.264 or 3840×2160 for H.265. Keep the aspect ratio locked.
  4. Choose the encoder. On the Video tab, pick H.264 (x264) for 1080p or H.265 (x265) for 4K. Set Quality to Constant Quality, RF 20-22.
  5. Encode. Set the output file under Save As, then click Start Encode. When it finishes, run the new file through the check above.

Maps must stay under 700 MB. If the file is too big, raise the RF number a point or two, or lower the resolution. A higher RF makes a smaller file.
